This is the entry point for anyone new to the world of coaching. Whether you are young or old, if you have limited knowledge of coaching or want to provide more support to your club or fishery, then this is the course for you. You must hold a basic level of angling knowledge and skill.
Developed in partnership with the UK Angling Source Group, the 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Angling (QCF) is the first qualification on the angling coaching ladder. The qualification is designed to provide learners aged 16 and over with an introduction to the practical and theoretical aspects of coaching angling. The foundation level of knowledge recognised in this qualification will enable them to develop an understanding of the safe, ethical and effective coaching of angling. Those who complete this Award will be able to assist more qualified angling coaches to deliver angling coaching sessions to adults and children.
The course covers both practical and theoretical elements of coaching including planning, conducting and evaluating your coaching activity.
Learners are supplied with a pre-course Welcome Pack which includes some written tasks to complete and bring to Day 1, plus various information to support them in preparing these. On Day 1 of the course the tutor will provide each Learner with a coursework portfolio to complete.
You should be aware that a Level 1 course is not designed to make you a more proficient angler. Everyone's expertise and experience will be different, but you should already have a range of basic practical angling skills within your chosen discipline (Coarse, Game or Sea).

How soon will I be qualified?
You have to attend both the course dates in the set order and complete all the work to the required standard. Your work must be assessed and internally verified before the Approved Centre can apply to 1st4sport for a certificate in your name. Typically this would be approximately four weeks after you finish your course, but if your attendance is interrupted or any of your work is submitted late, then this would delay the results.
Once your certificate is issued to the Approved Centre, it will be forwarded to you as quickly as possible along with your completed coursework portfolio.
Progressing to Level 2
If you are aiming to go on and undertake your Level 2 qualification as soon as possible, please be aware that it's necessary to have confirmation of Level 1 certification before you can be registered as a Learner on a Level 2 course. This means that you need to allow at least 6 weeks between the last day of your Level 1 course and the booking deadline for your preferred Level 2 event.
